The Ridleys is a 4-piece alternative folk band from The Philippines composed of four members: Benny Manaligod on vocals, Jan De Vera on lead guitar, Joric Canlas on bass, and Bryant Ayes on drums.

OCTOBER 2023

In October of 2023, the band commissioned me to design a tee to commemorate their 7th anniversary as a band.

The task: to design a shirt that would 1) include lyrics from all 14 songs off their album, Until I Reach the Sun; 2) involve some sort of broken mosaic elements; and 3) serve as a timeless memento for the band's listeners, old and new.I also wanted to highlight the album’s thesis lyric – “You’ll find your way back home” — honoring The Ridleys’ devotion to storytelling and personal connection.

I did so by illustrating a map featuring actual landmarks from the band's personal lives — each block containing lyrics is based on an actual location that is meaningful to The Ridleys such as their schools, favorite gig venues, etc.

Inspired by simple yet meaningful Russian matchbox illustrations & painted in warm-toned hues — this gig poster was created to honor the bright, breathing, lived-in comfort that The Ridleys has offered us in their first 7 years.

Its main elements are callbacks to some of the band’s most well-loved songs: the sun for ‘Icarus’, the moon for ‘Aphrodite’, and headlights in traffic for ‘Starlit Ocean’.

The brief was simple: include Joric's Isuzu Trooper in the poster!

Created another poster for the Ridleys inspired by their band's character – simple, personal, and always with a touch of human warmth.
